Our services for landlords

Meet the energy efficiency requirements for your property with Cosy Homes Oxfordshire

Cosy Homes Oxfordshire is a one-stop home retrofit service, working with homeowners throughout Oxfordshire – including landlords – to improve the energy efficiency of our homes.

By making use of the Cosy Homes Oxfordshire service as a landlord you can:

  • Ensure you’re compliant with the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) of at least an EPC band E for domestic properties
  • Find out the most cost-effective way of meeting the current MEES without compromising the potential for future improvements
  • Future proof your investment by going further than the current MEES require – our Whole House Plan approach means you will get expert advice on how to meet higher standards
  • Choose the level of investment you want to make now – from a single measure to a whole house retrofit
  • Save time on project management, as one of our dedicated Retrofit Coordinators can manage the install of improvement works from start to finish
  • Gain access to accredited suppliers to undertake works, including the potential to access ECO funding (see FAQs)
  • Make your property more attractive to prospective tenants by improving comfort (warm in the winter, cool in the summer) while keeping energy bills low.

How does the service work?

First of all, you need to register your property, giving us some basic information about the type of house it is and its existing energy usage.

We’ll then be in touch to set up a home assessment for your property, which enables us to develop and deliver a Whole House Plan, detailing the measures we’d recommend for the property to be as energy efficient as possible. If you choose to go ahead with any (or all) of the measures, we’ll gather quotes from our trusted suppliers and manage the process of having the works done for you – including quality assurance and approval after works are completed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ECO funding and how can I access it?

ECO (Energy Company Obligation) is a government energy efficiency scheme to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

ECO funding is available for vulnerable tenants who are receiving income-related benefits or have a low overall household income and a vulnerability to the cold (including suffering from a long-term health condition, being in receipt of a non-means tested benefit, or living in a property that has a low energy performance). The funding means that the cost of undertaking energy efficiency home improvements such as loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and heating system replacements can be met in whole or in part by an obligated energy supplier.

We are working with the Better Housing Better Health (BHBH) team, who provide residents with advice and grants to improve the energy efficiency of their home, lowering bills and improving health. BHBH already have a list of 18 accredited installers in Oxfordshire – these installers all have access to ECO funding and will contact BHBH if they believe a tenant is eligible. Having an eligible tenant means that a private landlord can benefit from ECO funding for improvements to their property.  The BHBH team will co-ordinate with the Cosy Homes Oxfordshire service should this situation arise.

How much does the service cost?

Our Whole House Plan service costs £175. This cost covers the time and expertise of our Retrofit Coordinators who undertake an assessment of your property and create a Whole House Plan. The Plan will also include estimate costs for undertaking each suggested energy efficiency measure.

What if I manage multiple properties?

The £175 cost of a Whole House Plan is per property, and you need to fill in a registration form for each property individually. However, if you manage several properties – especially if they are of a similar age and specification – we may be able to offer a discount. We can also help you with registering your properties.

Please contact us on info@cosyhomesoxfordshire.org or by phone on 0300 303 1269 to discuss your requirements – we’re happy to help.

What if I know I only want to undertake one energy efficiency measure, such as replacing a boiler?

Commissioning a Whole House Plan is not usually required for the installation of a single measure. However, not doing means that you will miss out on our expert’s advice on how to comply with the MEES now and in future, so we’d always recommend you take this route.

Whether it’s a single measure you want or our usual Whole House approach we are happy to help. Just contact us on info@cosyhomes.org or by phone on 0300 303 1269 to discuss your requirements.
